If the valve allows it, you can replace the valve core. And if you only have a car pump and want to inflate the tire with a bicycle/sports Presta valve, you can screw on a valve adapter.
The three main types of bicycle valves are Schrader, Presta, and Dunlop. The most common are Schrader and Presta valves. Each type has its own unique features, benefits, and compatibility with pumps and rims.
Schrader (AV)
Larger and more durable, similar to car tire valves. The Schrader valve has a central pin that must be pressed to release or inflate air.
Features: The valve has a spring-loaded core that automatically closes when not in use.
Application: Most commonly found on mountain, hybrid, and all-terrain bikes with wider tires.
Pump compatibility: Fits Schrader or all-terrain dual-head pumps.
Presta (SV)
Narrower and longer than Schrader, with a thread and nut on top.
Features: The nut must be unscrewed before pumping and then screwed back on to prevent air from escaping.
Application: Used on road and more expensive bikes with narrower rims.
Pump compatibility: Requires Presta or dual-head pump.
Dunlop
Description: An older type of valve, rarely used these days.
Features: Cylindrical stem with spring-loaded rubber seal.
Use: Rarely found on modern bicycles, but still found on older or some European city bikes.
