Mountain bicycles (MTB)

Mountain bicycle or MTB (Mountain Terrain Bicycle) is the most common name used even for the type of bicycle that is not intended for riding up the mountains. Basically, this type of bicycle is designed to finish the most difficult paved and unpaved trails. Riding in the fields with mud, gravel, sand, soil, puddles; hilly areas with steep ascents, descents and cliffs, forest paths with protruding roots, stones, and sudden obstacles. Wherever a significantly higher mobility and maneuverability is required. These bicycles usually have strong frames, thick, rough-tread tires, shock absorbing systems to absorb bumps when riding on rough roads, and a longer ground clearance that increases the bicycle’s mobility. MTB bicycles are very often equipped with a large number of gears (from 21 to even 33 gears) and with front and rear derailleurs. The very high number of gears makes it easier to overcome obstacles and change your driving style. More efficient disc brake systems, which are not hindered by mud on the wheels, are used.

Price of mountain bicycles. What are the determining factors?
The prices of MTB bicycles depend on the equipment of the bicycle. The better and the higher end of the equipment, the higher the price will be. Higher-end bicycles come with higher-end gear system, hydraulic disc brakes, and aluminum or carbon frames, resulting in much lower bicycle weight. In addition, higher class bicycles have stronger rims, better bushings (hubs), and are more resistant to aggressive riding. Among other things, the front fork can have a locking function, which cheap mountain bicycles do not have. Mountain bicycles with disc brakes (something that MTB bicycles with simpler design do not always have) improve the quality and efficiency of braking. A cheap and a high-end mountain bicycle may look almost the same visually, but the comfort and operation, and other features are significantly different.

What mountain bicycles can we offer?
Mountain bicycles are one of the most popular types of bicycles in Lithuania. Our product range includes not only the well-known mountain bicycles of world-class manufacturers MERIDA and CUBE, but also UNIBIKE, ROMET, ARKUS, which are gaining on them. We also offer mountain bicycles with different wheel sizes: 29er (29” wheels), 650b (27.7” wheels) and 26” wheels. Which wheel size to choose depends on the height of the cyclist and the purpose of the bicycle, as different wheel sizes give an advantage on different trails. Currently, the most popular bicycles are probably the ones with 26” wheels, and these MTB bicycles are more maneuverable and easier to control. According to types, mountain bicycles are divided into: XC, Enduro, Downhill, Freeride, and Dirt bicycles. When it comes to bicycle suspension, they are divided into three types:
- Without shock-absorbing fork (Rigid suspensiom);
- Hardtail;
- Full suspension .
