Mountain bike or MTB (Mountain Terrain Bike) is the most common name used even for types of bicycles that are not intended for climbing mountains. Basically, this type of bicycle is designed to overcome the most difficult routes with or without various surfaces. Wherever much greater tire grip and maneuverability are required. These bicycles usually have sturdy frames, thick, rough-tread tires, shock absorption systems that absorb hits when riding on uneven roads, and a greater distance between the ground and the central axis. MTB bicycles are very often equipped with a large number of gears (21 to 33) and with front and rear derailleurs. A very large number of gears makes it easier to overcome obstacles and change riding style. More effective disc brake systems are used, which are not hindered by dirt on the wheels. The characteristics of this type of bicycle differ from other bicycles in many aspects. The main differences are:
A mountain bike frame is designed to be strong, impact-resistant, and flexible. The frame's geometry is designed to provide stability and comfort over rough terrain. The frame also has special mounting points for accessories such as mudguards, racks, or water bottle holders.
Mountain bike tires are wider and have larger, deeper treads than other bikes. This helps them grip the ground better, provide traction, and absorb shock. The tires also have more air pressure adjustment options to adapt to different conditions.
MTB mountain bikes have a suspension system that allows the wheels to move up and down independently of the frame. This reduces vibration and increases comfort and control when riding over branches, rocks or other obstacles. Suspension can be either on the front wheel (called hardtail) or on both wheels (called full-suspension). Suspension can also be adjusted as needed.
Bicycles designed for mountain biking usually have slightly more curved handlebars, which provide more balance and maneuverability than other bikes. The handlebars also have grips, which help reduce hand fatigue and improve grip.
Mountain bikes have powerful brakes that allow you to stop the bike quickly and effectively, even in heavy mud, water, or snow. The most common types of disc brakes are those that have a brake disc on the wheel and a brake caliper on the frame. Disc brakes are more reliable and more durable than other brakes.
These bikes have a wide range of gears, which allows you to easily adapt to different gradients and speeds. The most common are 9-12-speed cassettes on the rear wheel and 1-3 sprockets on the front wheel. The latest mountain bikes use a single sprocket at the front and a large sprocket at the rear for a simpler and easier gear shifting system.
Riding a mountain bike is not only fun, but also good for your health, mood, and abilities. Here are some of the benefits of mountain biking:
Riding is a great aerobic exercise that strengthens the heart, lungs, and blood flow, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, burns calories and fat, and helps you lose weight. In addition, mountain biking is good for your joints and muscles because it doesn't involve as much impact as running or jumping. This makes it a better choice for exploring different places than other cardio workouts.
Mountain biking is a great way to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, as it stimulates the production of endorphins and serotonin in the brain, which are natural mood enhancers. In addition, mountain biking is a pleasant and interesting activity that gives a sense of satisfaction and self-confidence.
It is also a great way to develop coordination, balance, reflexes, reactions, strategy and quick decision-making. Each trail is a new challenge that requires you to adapt to different conditions and situations. Riding these bikes also helps improve your driving skills on other bikes or vehicles.
Finally, riding this category of bikes is a great way to see and experience various creations and wonders of nature. You can ride through forests, meadows, rivers, lakes, mountains, cliffs and other places that may not be accessible in other ways.
The prices of MTB bikes depend on the bike's configuration. The better and higher the level, the higher the price. Higher-end bikes are equipped with a higher-end drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and an aluminum or carbon (carbon fiber) frame, which results in a much lower bike weight. In addition, higher-end bikes have stronger rims, better hubs, and are more resistant to aggressive riding. Among other things, the front fork may have a locking function, which cheap mountain bikes do not have. Mountain bikes with disc brakes (which MTB bikes with simpler configurations do not always have) improve braking quality and efficiency. Cheap and higher-end mountain bikes may look almost the same visually, but their comfort, operation, and other features are significantly different.
Mountain bikes are one of the most popular types of bicycles. Our range includes not only the well-known world-class manufacturers Merida mountain bikes, but also the competing Unibike and Romet. We can also offer mountain bikes with different wheel sizes: 29er (29" wheels), 650b (27.5" wheels) and 26" wheels. The wheel size to choose depends on the cyclist's height and the purpose of the bike, because different wheel sizes provide an advantage on different trails. Currently, perhaps the most popular bikes are with 26" wheels, and such MTB bikes are more maneuverable and easier to control. However, mountain bikes with 29" wheels have also become very popular. By type, mountain bikes are divided into: XC, Enduro, Downhill, Freeride, Dirt bikes.
When it comes to bicycle suspension, they are divided into three types:
It is difficult to say what the best mountain bikes are, because it all depends on riding habits, distances, needs, so first of all, you should find out your riding style, distances, terrain and other factors.
