U-shaped locks
These are some of the most common and best types of locks. Not without reason – these bike security locks are resistant to hammers, pliers and cutting attempts. Lock sizes can vary, but the smaller they are, the better. The smaller the lock, the less space it creates between the protected bike and the locked place. Therefore, they can reduce the possibility of a thief breaking or cutting the lock, as they cannot insert the crowbar.
Foldable lock
These days, folding locks are increasingly popular, they are made of reinforced steel. The security level of such locks can be very high. They are difficult to cut, as special tools are required for this. A folding lock is not only convenient, but also safe. It can be folded compactly and easily transported in the container/holder provided. A folding lock is often made of particularly durable steel. Popular sizes of folding locks: 70 cm, 75 cm, 85 cm, 80 cm, 90 cm and others.
Cable locks
These locks are easier to cut than U-shaped ones, so they are more suitable for urban areas where theft is less common. Bicycle locks are often locked with a key or code, but this does not matter if the cable is easy to cut. However, the cables themselves must not only be long enough to hug the post, but also thick enough - at least 8 mm. Thinner cables are easier to cut.
Chain locks
They are stronger than cable locks and more resistant to saws and pliers. Such chains require a sufficiently strong lock, as it is often easier to break than a chain. Another disadvantage of a chain lock is that due to its frequent use, thieves have already learned to cut it or cut it with stronger tools. Compared to a cable lock, a chain lock is more secure. Popular chain lock sizes are 110 cm, 120 cm, 150 cm and others.
Locks with an alarm
The alarm can be connected to the lock or it can work separately. However, problems often arise with the alarm because it is too sensitive or too insensitive.
It is recommended to match all types of locks with each other. For example, folding locks can be matched with U-shaped chain locks. If it is not possible to attach a U-shaped lock to the place where the bicycle is left, it is recommended to lock the wheels with this lock and the bicycle itself with a chain lock. It is recommended to lock the rear triangle of the bicycle - the place where the wheel and the frame are closer to each other. If greater security is needed, it is possible to connect two U-shaped locks - at the front and at the end.
Bicycle lock prices depend on the type of lock and the level of security. The cheapest are cable locks, which provide minimal protection for the bicycle. More expensive, but more secure, are folding, U-shaped, chain locks and locks with alarms.
