Lighter and more maneuverable than 29-inch bikes, but faster than 26-inch bikes, are 650B or 27.5-inch bikes. These mountain bikes get their name from the 650B - 27.5-inch wheels they use. Different frame geometries with rear shocks or "hardtail" wheels allow you to enjoy different types of mountain biking, from downhill or freeride to cross-country skiing. The wheel size gives you a speed advantage over a 26-inch bike over longer distances on hard surfaces, while the shorter wheelbase and lower weight are useful in situations where greater maneuverability is needed than a 29-inch bike.
