If you want to shorten the steerer tube and avoid the hassle of removing the fork, the steerer tube cutting aid will help you make a straight and clean cut. First, remove the top cap and loosen the stem bolts. Then carefully pull the stem upwards and set it aside to avoid damaging the cables and housing (if it's integrated). Now remove the expander and spacers and install the cutting aid. Use a cover for the head tube. Position the cutting aid where you want to shorten. Caution! Tighten only by hand. Now you can shorten the steerer tube. Guide the saw blade parallel to the contact surface. Saw carefully and reduce the pressure when you're close to the end. Remove any sawdust after sawing. Finally, you can reinstall the stem – just as you normally would.
