CeramicSpeed

CeramicSpeed is more than just bearings. It is a company founded on innovation and a relentless desire to change the world of competitive cycling. It has grown rapidly over the years, distributing to over 50 countries, with an ever-expanding team of unique individuals working across offices in Europe, Asia, and America.

In 1998, Jacob Csizmadia broke the world record for 24-hour inline skating using skates equipped with ceramic ball bearings. Two years later, he introduced ceramic bearings to professional cycling. A winning mentality is how it all started, and this guiding principle continues to drive the company forward.

In 2001, Jacob joined Team CSC on tour, where ceramic bearings were used at the Tour de France for the very first time.

After this success, CeramicSpeed was founded, and the company began producing hybrid bearings in Holstebro, Denmark, for both sports and industrial applications.

Using technology originally developed as part of NASA’s space program in the 1990s, CeramicSpeed’s hybrid bearings are made with top-grade silicon nitride ceramic balls, making them 58% lighter and 30–50% faster than traditional steel bearings. The production of each ball takes 50 to 70 days, but the result is considered worth the wait.

The knowledge gained from bicycle bearings became a launch pad into industrial applications, and the company now works with global manufacturing companies across various sectors to achieve operational savings and maintain competitiveness. In 2014, CeramicSpeed received FDA certification, producing the only bearings in the world approved for direct contact with food products.

The acquisition of the Colorado-based testing lab Friction Facts in 2016 strengthened the company’s ability to deliver efficiency, quality, and groundbreaking results within the cycling industry. Innovation remains at the core of CeramicSpeed, continuously bringing new products to market and pushing the boundaries of cycling technology.

Today, people are the heart and soul of the company. Operations remain based at the headquarters in Holstebro, where the team continues to assemble every bearing by hand. While the company continues to grow globally, its culture and values remain rooted in its history.

Every year, the team takes time to gather in true Danish style - cycling, laughing, and sharing stories from the road over a beer or two.
