Merida
Merida Industry Co., Ltd is a bicycle company based in Yuanlin, Taiwan. The company started its activity in 1972, founded by Ike Tseng (1932–2012). The name MERIDA was created intentionally: the three syllables ME, RI, DA reflect the company’s goal to create not only visually appealing but also high-quality products that help every rider comfortably reach their destination. The first Merida bicycles were produced on July 10, 1973, and in 1988 the independent brand Merida was established.
Today, Merida is a globally recognized bicycle manufacturer with a strong reputation, often described as "designed in Germany, made in Taiwan." This means that development, design and testing of new technologies take place in the company’s research center in Germany, while mass production is carried out in Taiwan. This combination allows Merida to produce high-quality bicycles supported by advanced engineering and testing. The company also offers a lifetime warranty on bicycle frames and operates in 77 countries worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Europe, Central and South America.
Merida produces a wide range of bicycles, including mountain, hybrid, road, triathlon, cyclocross, women’s, city, electric, youth and children’s bikes. Popular mountain bike models include Big Nine, Big Seven, Juliet, One-Forty, Ninety-Six and Matts. Merida Crossway hybrid bikes are among the most popular models, featuring a front suspension fork, adjustable stem and hydraulic brakes. These bikes can be equipped with accessories such as mudguards, lighting systems and kickstands, making them suitable for both commuting and leisure rides. Cyclocross models are designed for both road and off-road use, while women’s models feature geometry adapted specifically for female riders. Merida road bikes, such as Reacto, Scultura and Speeder, are equipped with advanced technologies and are used by professional teams, including Bahrain Merida.
Merida has been an active supporter of professional cycling for many years, sponsoring top athletes and teams worldwide. The company previously supported the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM, one of the most successful mountain bike teams. Today, Merida continues its involvement in professional cycling through teams such as Bahrain Merida, which has included well-known Lithuanian cyclist Ramūnas Navardauskas.
